Job Description

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE Provide direct service and supervision to neighbors, helping them to abide by community expectations, and promoting their success in achieving and sustaining permanent housing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Complete intake procedure, show new neighbors around the shelter, and complete shelter orientation.
  • Maintain an environment that is fair, safe, and respectful for all.
  • Help neighbors abide by community expectations.
  • Help neighbors work through interpersonal conflict within the assigned shelter or PSH setting.
  • Monitor all activities and areas of assigned property.
  • Communicate observations and interactions with clients to clinical program staff through documentation in computer-based daily log.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed, including determining when it is necessary to involve other staff, on-call support, or the authorities.
  • Interact with and assist meal groups at assigned PSH sites.
  • Record the presence of non-residents at assigned PSH sites in the daily log.
  • Monitor usage and inventory of supplies as assigned.
  • Report maintenance concerns to supervisor and record in daily log.
  • Adhere to agency policy, procedures, and professional code of ethics.
  • Participate in Staff Meetings
  • Attend assigned training events.
  • Complete all duties as assigned and other duties as required.
  • Remain alert and on duty throughout shifts.
  • Work in an environment that is dynamic, sometimes demanding, and even chaotic.
  • Respond to emergency and crisis situations

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • One year experience working with homeless population, or combination of education, transferable skills and lived experiences is preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to work within a clinical model and a social work environment, employing motivational interviewing, conflict resolution, and strength-based approaches is required.
  • Experience working with a diverse population, with sensitivity to differences in culture, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, race, age, and physical and mental illness.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and other applications. Experience using and entering data into HMIS preferred
