Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and data-savvy Film Analyst to join our Business Intelligence team. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Film department, providing comprehensive analysis and reporting to drive strategic decisions. This role requires a deep understanding of data analysis, proficiency in SQL, advanced Excel skills, and experience in Python and Power BI to transform data into actionable insights. The Film Analyst will be crucial in maximizing market share and ensuring the organization is well-informed and strategically positioned within the competitive landscape.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Collaborate with the Film department to understand and address their BI and analytical needs.
  • Utilize SQL and Python to extract, manipulate, and analyze data from various sources in support of analytical requirements.
  • Create new and convert existing reporting in modern BI platforms (Power BI, Vista Horizon).
  • Develop and maintain actionable dashboards using Excel and Power BI, delivering insights to stakeholders in a clear and actionable manner.
  • Track, optimize, and audit the booking of films and scheduling of showtimes to maximize market share potential, ensuring theatre compliance in scheduling and pricing, and providing actionable recommendations.
  • Conduct competitive analysis to understand key success factors in each market, driving strategic positioning within the industry.
  • Develop more robust tracking of advance film sales to better forecast and strategize film performance.
  • Maintain a comprehensive competitor data catalogue, including theatre and auditorium metadata, ticket prices, and amenities.
  • Catalogue film-specific data such as on-sale dates, forecasts, early access dates, and demographics.
  • Present analytical findings to stakeholders, providing recommendations to enhance film strategies and operations.
  • Ensure data accuracy and integrity by performing regular data quality checks and validation.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in data analysis and reporting to continually improve analytical capabilities.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, or another analytically focused field (Master’s degree is a strong plus).
  • 3-5 years of experience in an analytical role, preferably within the film or entertainment industry.
  • Proficiency in writing complex and optimized SQL queries.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including Power Query, DAX, and complex formulas.
  • Experience building actionable, KPI-driven dashboards in Power BI.
  • Solid experience with Python for data manipulation, analysis, and visualization; experience with web scraping a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for interpreting complex data sets.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex data insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to data accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to understand market dynamics and contribute to strategic positioning.

Must have good reading, writing, and speaking skills to effectively communicate with studios, managers, and co-workers.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to develop and interpret charts.

Reasoning Ability:

Perform under pressure and/or opposition at times, relying on independent judgment and knowledge to decide the best directions and solutions.

Computer Skills:

Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, database software
