Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Reviewing proposal specifications and drawings and attending pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Proficiency preparing estimates by calculating various statistical data such as quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs per man-hour, and equipment costs and applying them to the complete scope of work.
  • Reviewing/researching historical data (purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis, reports, etc.) and compiling summary reports to develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates.
  • Incorporating historical data into unit and man-hour figures.
  • Actively participating in developing bid package estimate documents.
  • Proficiently maintaining files of working documents for backup to estimating figures, including current. (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
  • Creating, sending, and managing subcontractor requests for proposal.
  • Reviewing design options and recommending the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
  • Following awarded contracts as assigned- may include estimating extra work items, change orders, credits, procuring materials, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in engineering or construction management OR equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 2 years civil, heavy highway estimating experience involving concrete and/or asphalt paving, road widening, drainage lines, road reconstruction and road dirt work.
  • Minimum 2 years experience of hard bid experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of estimator and/or combination of project engineer and estimating road construction.
  • Ability to pass DMV background check.
  • Valid drivers license.
