About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead their accounting and finance operations. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, managing payroll and compliance, and providing strategic insights to senior leadership. The ideal candidate will combine technical accounting expertise with strong leadership skills and a solutions-driven mindset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee the accounting team, setting clear objectives and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including general ledger reviews and reconciliations.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present financial statements and management reports.
  • Oversee payroll, benefits administration, and compliance with tax and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Review Profit & Loss (P&L) and Balance Sheet activity for compliance with GAAP.
  • Lead the development of the annual budget and monitor performance against forecasts.
  • Provide financial analysis, identify risks and opportunities, and make recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with auditors, banks, and regulatory agencies.
  • Mentor and develop accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all accounting processes, procedures, and reporting deadlines are met.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline efficiency across finance operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required; Master’s degree a plus.
  • CPA or equivalent accounting certification strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3+ years in a leadership role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience with payroll and benefits administration.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis).
  • Familiarity with enterprise financial systems and reporting tools.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities, with experience presenting to executive leadership.
