GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Progressing entry-level position beyond the Structural Designer I position. Performs assignments designed to develop professional engineering knowledge and abilities in the office and field. Requires the application of traditional and some non-traditional engineering techniques, procedures. Produces work using engineering software and models in Revit Structure or other BIM programs to develop the Contract Document drawings. Some judgement exercised on details of work working with the Structural Engineer closely. Assigns tasks to and coordinates with Structural Designer I, Senior BIM Technician and BIM Technician. Works with clients, authorities having jurisdiction, contractors.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
  • BSCE/BSAE + (3) years of acceptable structural engineering experience after graduation   – OR – MSCE/MSAE   + (2) years of acceptable structural engineering experience in building design after graduation.
  • Proficient in various structural analysis software.
  • Proficient in REVIT structural BIM software
  • Demonstrates to President and Structural Engineers the ability to accurately complete assigned tasks in a timely manner and instills confidence in their communication and technical abilities.
  • GPA in undergraduate and graduate level programs 3.0 or higher.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Has Master’s Degree in Engineering (MSCE/MSAE)
  • Has previous engineering and/or construction experience.
  • Possesses interest and shows self-motivation in learning structural engineering.
  • Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Instills confidence in supervisors in communication and technical abilities through work completed.
  • Literate in Revit Structures for producing plan work, details, notes and general editing.
  • Developing knowledge of layout and assembling project drawings.
  • Has been involved in designing building projects from start of design through end of construction.
  • Manages one’s own time effectively/can manage small tasks through design.
  • Increasing knowledge of common analysis and design methods.
  • Increasing knowledge of the IBC, ASCE-7, AISC, ACI and other material-specific codes.
  • Increasing knowledge of Haines Structural Group computer analysis and design software.
  • Has learned to design and detail at least one (1) structural system.
  • Meets timelines and budgets established by the Project Manager.
  • Participating member of a technical or professional society.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PRODUCTION
  • Works to develop designs of more complex components or overall design of simple structures.
  • Completes design calculations by hand and using various types of computer software for analysis and design.
  • Learns provisions IBC, ASCE-7, and material-specific codes and how to apply them.
  • Uses Revit Structure to prepare BIM models and associated details and plan-work as part of the Contract Documents.
  • Provides quality-control checks of one’s own work.
  • Calculates and checks dimensions to verify contract documents match design.
  • Accomplishes reference research.
  • Familiarizes self with new construction products.
  • Works collaboratively with staff.
  • Checks shop drawings and product submittals.
  • Provides field observation during construction
  • Completes tasks, as assigned by Project Manager
  • Coordinates with clients on small project items.

  • Has lead responsibilities for BIM Technicians, Structural Designer I and Student Interns.
  • Responsible for workflow production and training of BIM Technicians, Structural Designer I’s and Student Interns.
  • Responsible for answering job related BIM and design questions.
